Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
The Entertainment Team is a full-service entertainment and event production company. It features the best in DJ entertainment, Casino Monte Carlo services, video arcade games, sports interactive games and inflatables. My business found me.

What was your vision when you first started your business, and what is it now?
When I first started the business my vision was very simple. I wanted to train three or four other DJs to do what I was already doing. I hope to expand in the area of event production and do larger creative events.

What is the best part of doing business in this community?
El Dorado Hills is a great place to do business and raise a family. I have lived here for more than 25 years and have the privilege of doing some charity work in the community.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from the experience?
My first job was in small hotel restaurant. It was hard work for a 14-year-old. I learned from my father the value of never giving up, no matter how hard it gets.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?
I have been a charter member of the Chamber of Commerce. ET has also been part of many community activities and has provided entertainment for countless charities and events.

Why is your staff the best in the biz?
They are exceptionally talented people who understand the value of customer service and putting the needs and desires of our clients first.

What is the best thing about being the boss?
I enjoy putting our people in the best possible situations to succeed.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’m proud of my family and the two incredible young men I have the privilege of calling my sons.

Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?
I am certainly an imperfect follower but the desire of my heart is to live my life with Jesus in control. Having said that, my business and management style is patterned after one of my other heroes, Ronald Reagan.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?
I have many great, wise and caring friends who have been there for me in times of trouble.

And finally, customer service is…?
Doing whatever it takes to exceed the expectations of our clients, and remembering that people always come before policies.

Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) definitely found me. While living in Japan, I had chronic lower back pain and an acupuncturist cured me. The experience impacted my life and I wanted to share that with others. I attended four years of Chinese medical school and worked in both China and Japan.

What was your vision when you first started your business, and what is it now?
My vision then and now is to be part of the process of improving a person’s quality of life.

What is the best part of doing business in this community?
The best part of doing business in this community is the people. You have to be open-minded and somewhat brave to try acupuncture. The fact that I have an established practice is solid proof of the adventurousness of the people I see everyday.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from the experience?
I worked on the wait staff at a local retirement home. I learned that there was never a need to wear orange, one-piece polyester dresses with white nurse shoes! Definitely a fashion no-no!

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?
I make myself available for group talks to introduce people to TCM. Since TCM stresses an all-inclusive approach to health, that’s the experience my patients get. It’s about getting to know who the patient is not just about what their chief concern is.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?
Helping a couple get pregnant is intensely satisfying.

Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?
I am extremely lucky to be surrounded by friends and business associates who show me daily how to be better in business and in life.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?
I rely on my family; they know me best.

And finally, customer service is…?
The opportunity to be included in a life-changing point in time. The possibilities are endless.

Sierra Vista Bank
1710 Prairie City Road, Suite 100, Folsom - 3311 Coach Lane, Cameron Park
916-850-1500 or 530-676-3400

Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
Sierra Vista Bank is a community-based, banking company that serves the needs of our clients through creative use of traditional banking products. I became associated with the organization when the Board decided to pursue a much more marketing-oriented approach to business growth.

What was your vision when you first started your business, and what is it now?
With only a year and a half between those two points, they are still the same. Our vision remains to be the best of class in serving the community.

What is the best part of doing business in this community?
This is an “American Dream Community.” Good jobs, great neighborhoods, excellence in education and opportunities to live and play in the shadow of majestic mountains.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from the experience?
I grew up on a farm and learned that most things in life are not difficult, but they require hard work, diligence and attention. I saw life at the beginning and at the end – both are worthy of respect.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?
My clients share intimate details of their business and I hold that information with discretion while providing counsel and advice, as well as money products. I am on the Superior California YMCA and Developmental Disability Service Organization Foundation boards, as well as immediate past president of the Rotary Club of North Sacramento.

Why is your staff the best in the biz?
They care about what they do and they have the experience to execute that care.

What is the best thing about being the boss?
When things go right, I bring everyone around and say, “Look what we did.” When things go wrong, I ask myself, “What could I have done better?” I appreciate the challenge to make our organization better one day and one person at a time.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?
My two daughters.

Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?
My father, who is now deceased, was raised as a farmer in Kentucky. He studied electricity in the mid 1950s in order to provide a better life for his family. My business role model is my former boss, Bill Young. He has a calm and gracious presence with an amazing skill at handling clients and staff.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?
I go on a walk. I’ve always been at my best when I’m able to take a walk or hike.

And finally, customer service is…?
Matching the need or desire of a potential client with a solution that will work.

newsblaze.com

Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
NewsBlaze.com is a national and international newspaper with journalists and cartoonists throughout the U.S. and across the world. We also publish press releases for businesses and organizations. We never delete a story, so these stories attract visitors for years.

What was your vision when you first started your business, and what is it now?
Originally, I wanted to create a newspaper that brought together diverse news that wasn’t being seen, and to ignore the incessant celebrity-chasing that isn’t news. The vision now includes helping businesses, organizations and communities get their news out to the local community.

What is the best part of doing business in this community?
The people are friendly and they help each other.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from the experience?
While still at school, I helped a neighbor with his milk route. I learned that you can build and expand a business by giving people what they want.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?
I am the secretary of the Folsom Historic District Association. Sally is a member of the Folsom Quilt Guild. We are members of the Mondavi Center and want to extend to other organizations in Folsom. We help Talking With Heroes, Soldiers’ Angels, Marine Parents United, and more. We support our customers to help them grow.

Why is your staff the best in the biz?
Our staff loves what they do and they share my desire to do good work and serve others.

What is the best thing about being the boss?
I really like building relationships with other businesses that are mutually beneficial.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?
I was commissioned by the Governor of Kentucky, on the recommendation of a Kentucky Colonel serving in Iraq. We published all of their stories, without spin, when the mainstream media was focused on "bad news."

Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?
My father instilled in me many of his qualities that drive me forward.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?
To my friends and mentors; and back to the basics.

And finally, customer service is…?
Being accessible, listening carefully and resolving any question fairly, to support the relationship.
